Quotes from Kaitlin

2005 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

  • [On her 400 IM final at 2005 Worlds] "I am happy for Katie (Hoff), it is fantastic. After our relay we told each other to go for 1st and 2nd. Katie got 1st and I got 3rd, but I will take it after the year I have had coming back from the Olympic Games. Obviously I would have loved to have gone faster, but I am happy. It was a long meet. It is a pretty solid time; it is the time I have been doing for the past four years, before I broke it last summer. I am just excited that we swam well for the United States, to be on the podium. Katie (Hoff) had a fantastic meet, and she was really good out there.”
  • [On Katie Hoff's performance at 2005 Worlds] "Katie (Hoff) reminds me of myself when I started, she is so adorable. The girls I started out with are not here, so I am with a new crowd of girls and Katie is in there. She reminds me of me when I was her age, all the boys picking on her and just loving it.’'
  • [On her favorite moments at the '00 Olympics] ''Anything that involved team unity. I would be in the stands cheering and it would hit me that I'm at the Olympics with the most powerful, powerhouse swimming team that there is, representing the United"
  • "Swimming is a sport that's kind of hard to see the future in.''
  • "I don't want to swim forever."
  • "I want to take my swimming achievements, successes and experiences into the field of communications and broadcasting. I want to do sports commentating.''
  • [On being Homecoming Queen] ''Yeah, it was great. My dad got to escort me. There are over 600 people in my class and they only picked five, so it was quite an honor. It was funny because the other girls were nervous. After the Olympics, this wasn't that nerve-racking. I was just cold!”
  • [On where she keeps her Olympic medals] ''Nowhere special yet. I do personal appearances at schools and I always bring the medal. Once I'm done with my career, all the big ones will be put in a case.''
  • [On the injuries that slowed down her career] ''It was one thing after another. I was so frustrated. Many times during that battle I was going to give up. That's why this Olympics is so special to me.''
  • [On upstaging Phelps at the 2004 SC Worlds] "He's got nothin' on me."
  • [On how she can keep up her energy through multiple races in one night] "I've been a college swimmer for years. In dual meets we swim that many events."
  • [On her win for Comeback athlete at the Golden Goggles] ''It's been a crazy last four years. I had a great experience in 2000, but I was not completely satisfied. I battled some injuries to get to 2004 and it's been the best year of my life.''
  • [After winning best relay performance at the Golden Goggles] ''We'd like to ask the girls who helped us win this medal to come up here and join us: Rachel Komisarz, Rhi Jeffrey and Lindsay Benko.''
